Harold Brooks, Evelyn Brooks, Ruth Brooks–Hall
Harold served 41 years as a Katy Railroad machinist, keeping trains rolling through historic Texas freezes. In 1958, he traded a polished brass cotter pin for three white gardenias from Evelyn at Lakeside Florist—a pin they still keep in their cedar box. Evelyn sang soprano in the choir for 46 years and tended heritage damask roses, while sister-in-law Ruth taught second grade for 32 years, inspiring generations of children with her Monday chalk riddles and “Barnaby the Ceramic Turtle.”
